Ali Thani

Ali Thani is a Technical Advisor and co-founder of the Mwambao Coastal Community Network Tanzania has more than 35 years of experience working in the field of Natural resources management and conservation across Zanzibar and Tanzania mainland. He began to work in the Government institution as a senior officer in the Commission of Natural resources and then after to International organizations including CARE international coordinating islands protected area community cultural ethics program and Climate Change before joining WWF Tanzania as communication awareness and training in the wider sea-scape program. He has long-term experience working in different capacities including project planning and management, communication, awareness and training, climate change, natural resources conservation college tutor, carbon finance, forest gene resources conservation, mangrove forest management, community mobilization, environmental education as well as ecological and social resilience. Ali and his co-founder are the first to pioneer the initiation of community reef closures for octopuses in Tanzania, active reef restoration using artificial reef balls, and community conservation eco-credit schemes in Tanzania. He is now in the transition and taking responsibility for a technical advisor and engaging In staff training, mentoring, and program quality assurance in general for the organization.
